First Visit to a Chiropractor

Your First Visit: Action Spine & Joint (Nashville, TN)

We have seen thousands of patients over the year. Those patients visiting for the first time often have many questions and don’t know what to expect. Since you may have only worked with traditional medical doctors in the past, you may have some initial apprehension. Our office staff has included some detailed information on what a typical “first” visit will entail.

To expedite your visit, it is important to gather any medical data you might have, especially previous MRIs or X-rays. Some patients find it helpful to write out their symptoms, previous treatments and important factors like work history or a list of activities you do for fun – like gardening. Plan to spend 1-1.5 hours at your first visit.

At first, a visit to a chiropractor resembles a visit to any other health professional. You are greeted by a friendly, competent staff member and asked to fill out a number of forms. Here is where you share your reports, such as MRIs. Arriving 15 minutes before your appointment time to complete these forms is helpful for keeping you on schedule.

Once you are in the doctor’s office you will be given a thorough examination, including discussing your prior medical history. Your doctor will order diagnostic tests and X-rays, if needed. Once all of the information is gathered, your chiropractor will tell you what can be done to alleviate your symptoms.

You will receive all the information you need to make a decision as to whether chiropractic treatment is for you. Your treatment plan may include chiropractic adjustments. Basically, the chiropractor will place you in a specific position, and move your bones back into alignment. Other activities, including massage, exercise, and instructions on posture and movement will help you on the path of healing.
